Writing

Patricia is a writer based in San Antonio Texas. Inspired by her beautiful culture her produced works include: Curanderas & Chocolate at The Guadalupe in 2019 and in 2020 by Teatro Audaz and Stage West Theatre. In 2021 her play Un Nuevo Capitulo: An American Novela was produced by Aria Creative Productions. Look for Patricia’s piece “The Sandia” in Somos Tejanas! Chicano Identity and Culture published by University of Texas Press in 2025.

El Monstro, A San Antonio Historical Tragedy A Play with Music written by Patricia Zamora In September, 1921 a flood devastated San Antonio, damaging not only the downtown area but destroying the colonias on the Westside, killing nearly 80 people. El Monstro is a San Antonio historical tragedy. Flavio and Petra came to the United States to escape the Revolution. Amelia and Javier are in love and he wants to take her away from the toil of her job as a pecan sheller. Lupita and her family are struggling migrant workers. Catarina volunteers with the Cruz Azul to help the Mexicanos in any way she can and Jose sells newspapers to earn money to help him win back his family name. Each of them are deeply impacted by a massive natural disaster that destroys their lives and reveals a blatant disregard for infrastructure in their community due to racism. Fast Forward to the Chicano Activism of 1974 and their fight to reverse the generational trauma that exists because of the magnitude of racial inequality. Curanderas & Chocolate: Cuentos of a Latina Life A Solo Show Written and Performed by Patricia Zamora Thematically framed with religious candles and faith healers, “Curanderas & Chocolate” is a semi-autobiographical work that presents stories of love, loss and hardship. With core messages like "I am a modern-day Curandera. I mix the old ways with the new ways,” uttered by her modern-day curandera character, Zamora hopes her show will relate to audiences of various backgrounds. “The faith healer is universal in so many cultures. The Devil’s Mare A Original Screenplay written by Shannon Halley, Christopher Oglesby and Patricia Zamora The Devil’s Mare is a gripping tale of love & redemption, mystery & magic, set mid-twentieth century (’50s-70’s) on the West Texas high plains: During a brutal dust storm, Corky Braun, a young cowboy, discovers a mysterious naked woman in an old farmworker’s church. With no recollection of her past, Corky gives her the name Mari and a new home and family in the Texas Panhandle. But tragedy strikes when Mari disappears during a mysterious tornado at the local Starlite Lounge dance hall. When Corky unjustly blames his longtime best friend Luc West, Luc leaves his hometown of Nazareth, Texas, vowing to never return. For years Luc seeks refuge from the tragedy through hard-living and hustling oilfield pipe. However, fate has other plans for Luc, when years later he finds himself back in Nazareth and forced by his own behavior to confront his past and clean up the ruins of the old Starlite Lounge dance hall, where Mari had disappeared. Somos Tejanas!: Chicana Identify and Culture in Texas Edited by Jody A. Marin and Norma E. Cantu An expansive volume on Tejana identity and Tejanidad told through personal narratives, poetry and essays. Patricia’s original essay titled “The Sandia” is a reminiscent and heartfelt homage to her father and her small town south texas childhood.
